Key Stage 5 Business Studies
AS and A2 courses are available for students to study business studies, at an advanced level. This develops the GCSE programme for students who should acquire a more complex understanding of the most significant topic / issues facing the business world. Business strategy, marketing, finance and management are key aspects studied along with the environment of business. There is an emphasis on actual real case study analysis throughout.
You will study the following topics:
Nature of Business ~ Businesses operate in a dynamic, uncertain environment. In this module the focus is on how to operate so that they can manage risk, deal with change and measure how well they meet their stakeholder interests.
Business Functions ~ This module examines the key business areas including managing HR, finance, marketing and operations.
Marketing and Business ~ This module focuses on how businesses must strive to keep in touch with the market. All products / services should be researched and matched to the identified customer needs.
Business Strategy ~ Businesses need to work toward achieving their goals and this module brings together all of the functions into this singular objective. Analysis of performance using financial data and management tools is key to their progress. To be successful they must meet consumer demand by providing goods and services that they really want.
Young Enterprise is available as an enrichment opportunity for all business students at post 16 to develop their knowledge and understanding by setting up and running their own business. This enables the students who successfully take part to also acquire UCAS points through a terminal examination. Also there should be opportunities to learn more about business by taking part in trips or visits, guest speakers and so on.
Assessment: During AS / A2 Business Studies you will be required to take examinations based around case studies of different business scenarios. This could involve research with data management to allow analysis and review. Ultimately, you will be required to make decisions and then make recommendations on the issues that arise.
