Key Stage 5 Business Studies
During AS and A level Psychology you will be enhancing your understanding and skills that you developed at GCSE. Some topics will be new, others will be ones that you are familiar with but revisited and studied in much greater detail.
AS level in Year 12:
Unit 1
a) Memory – The structure, function and limitations of human memory. How the limitations can be overcome
b) Attachments – The relationships we develop as children and how these can influence our later personality and life.
c) Research Methods – How research into areas of Psycholgical interest has been conducted, including ethical/moral issues arising from this research
Unit 2
a) Stress – How the human body responds in a physical and psychological way to stress and how to cope with stress more effectively
b) Social Influence – How people can influence the behaviour of others, including obedience to authority.
c) Psychopathology – What are mental disorders like, how can they be treated?
A2 level in Year 13:
Unit 3
a) Biological Rhythms – The patterns our body has, including sleep and dreaming and the purposes of both.
Plus 2 further topics selected by student voice
Unit 4
a) Phobias – How to define, explain and treat these debilitating conditions
b) An in depth look at contemporary Psychology, drawn from a range of areas and selected by student voice
c) Research Methods
