The Course

Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 and 9)

  • Personal and Social Education – Careers units are taught to each year group in year 7, 8 and 9
  • A skill audit is undertaken in Year 8
  • Options guidance – Year 9 Parents’ Evening
  • Decision making as part of Year 9 careers module
  • Option talk

Key Stage 5 (Year 12 and 13)

  • Advice on ‘The World At Work’

Resources

  • Careers Resource Centre – available to all students and open during the lunchtime
  • Careers library contains books and videos/DVDs
  • Access to extensive amounts of career orientated software and media, including videos, from any computer on the College network.  There are several hundred.
  • Information on Higher Education, Further Education, Apprenticeships and Work Based learning.
  • Connexions Advisor – to advise, provide information, collect information for employers and Further Education.
  • The Connexions service, which -
    • Provides help and advice on options for exam courses in KS4
    • Gives talks to Years 9-13 on Post 16 and Post 18 options
    • Interviews in Years 9-13
    • Advises on ‘action planning’

The College provides for students:

Work Experience

Work experience is offered to students for one week in Year 10.  It helps students to:

  • Develop self reliance, flexibility and the ability to work with others.
  • Learn about the world of work and get an insight into the skills and attitudes requried by employers.
